AFTER almost five years of dedicated service, Kate Murphy has bid farewell to the Dungog Shire Community Centre (DSCC).

A celebration of her contribution to the wider community was attended by family and friends as well as Dungog Shire Council’s General Manager Gareth Curtis, DSCC staff, and members of the DSCC Management Committee.

Kate first joined the DSCC in early 2022, bringing with her a wealth of experience in business and community service.

With qualifications in Business, Community Services, WHS, Training and Assessment, and other valuable fields, she has long been recognised for her ability to combine professionalism with compassion.

A Dungog local since 1995, Kate and her husband Jim raised their two children here, and she now enjoys seeing her granddaughters grow up in the same close-knit community.

She also served as a Dungog Shire Councillor from 2017 to 2021, continuing her longstanding commitment to local progress.

At her farewell, current DSCC Management Committee President Carol Skafte-Zauss praised Kate’s “honesty, work ethic, compassion and caring for the Dungog community,” adding that “Kate has put her heart and soul into her role.”

Reflecting on her time at DSCC, Kate said, “I love what we do there, I love what we can achieve, and I love the people I work with. We punch above our weight at the DSCC.”

Kate now passes the reins to the new manager Xavier King, expressing her hope that the Services Australia agency can continue to operate at the Centre.

She also extended her gratitude to the DSCC Management Committee for their unwavering support, guidance, and belief in the work of the organisation.

Together, their shared commitment has helped strengthen the DSCC’s role as a vital hub for connection, support, and community spirit in Dungog.
