Radio Dungog’s launches long-awaited new studios to a full house

RADIO Dungog 2DCR 107.9FM officially launched its long-awaited new studios on Tuesday 25 November, with a large number of locals gathering at Radio House at the Dungog Showground.

Guests at the launch enjoyed drinks and nibbles as they toured the upgraded facilities and heard from those who helped bring the project to life.

President Nola McDonald, Vice President Michael Beaumont, Committee Member Alexandria Carruthers, and Member for Upper Hunter Dave Layzell, addressed the crowd.

Each highlighted the importance of community radio in connecting and informing residents across the shire.

Carruthers emphasised the project’s significance in expanding community participation, while Layzell congratulated the committee on delivering a modern asset for local storytelling, youth engagement and emergency communication.

Beaumont echoed these sentiments, saying the new space would help bring more voices onto the airwaves.

“These studios will give school students and anyone considering a career change the chance to experience broadcasting firsthand.

“We’re here for the community, and we want local voices to shine,” said Beaumont.

For the past 12 years, Radio Dungog operated from a cramped booth behind the Dungog Visitor Information Centre, a space McDonald described as “well and truly showing its age.”

The deteriorating building was known as not being sustainable for a growing community broadcaster.

Following two years of planning, fundraising and construction, the transformation is complete.

The station now boasts two brand-new, spacious studios, offering flexibility, accessibility and ample room for future expansion.

The studio build cost $250,000, with a further $120,000 invested in the studio fit-out.

One studio is dedicated to live broadcasting, while the second will serve as a recording suite, allowing presenters to pre-record shows and podcasts at times that suit them.

With training supplied and doors open, locals with a hobby, a story or a passion for music are encouraged to get involved via Radio Dungog’s Facebook or email@radiodungog.org.
