Local artist shares love of rural life at Dungog By Design

DUNGOG By Design is presenting a collection of works by award-winning local artist Gaye Shield during the month of February.

Based in Dungog, painting has been Gaye’s lifelong passion; she began at age 11 and has been exhibiting for over 30 years.

Deeply inspired by the people, animals, and landscapes around her, her work often blends vibrant colour, expressive brushwork, and touches of humour.

“An Associate Member of the Royal Art Society of NSW, Gaye has won numerous awards, including eight first prizes, and has exhibited widely across Sydney, the Hunter region, and nationally,” Arts Upper Hunter stated.

Gaye draws much of her inspiration from her rural community and the Australian landscape, as well as from still life, flora, fauna, and occasional abstract explorations.

In “The Farm Yard” series, Gaye has produced some delightful miniatures and two larger paintings, her love of animals clearly evident.

Dungog By Design is located at 224 Dowling St, Dungog and is open Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm.
