DUNGOG’S netball community came together for a heartfelt and memorable afternoon as the twilight netball season drew to a close, marked by the official opening of the newly named “Heather Muddle Shed”.
The special event welcomed Life Member Heather Muddle and her family, alongside a strong group of past and present committee members, all gathering to celebrate a woman widely regarded as a cornerstone of local netball.
During the ceremony, Life Member Tracey Lowrey reflected on the rich history of Dungog Netball and paid tribute to Heather’s extraordinary contribution over many years.
She described Heather as a “true local legend of the courts”, recognising her tireless dedication through roles such as scoring, timing, and fundraising.
More than her service, however, it was Heather’s warmth, kindness, and ever-present smile that speakers said left a lasting impression on generations of players and volunteers.
Former committee members echoed the sentiment, noting that the honour was both fitting and deeply meaningful.
“There is no one more deserving,” one shared, highlighting the significance of formally recognising Heather’s legacy.
In a touching moment of nostalgia, Heather remained at the courts to watch the twilight matches and even rang the bell for break times – just as she had done years before – bringing the celebration full circle.
“The afternoon concluded with congratulations and thanks extended to all who attended, with many remarking on how special it was to see Heather’s family present to witness the tribute,” said Jessica Murray, Dungog Netball Association President.
“The unveiling of the Heather Muddle Shed now stands as a lasting symbol of appreciation for a woman whose contribution to Dungog Netball will not be forgotten.”
