A NEW group of young people from across the Dungog Shire is stepping up to make a real difference in the community.
The recently formed Dungog and Surrounds Youth Council is already taking action, with a clear goal to create more opportunities for local young people.
Their first focus is raising funds to help send youth to the Wangat Camp in July – an experience that builds confidence, connection and life skills.
Over the weekend, the Youth Council was part of the Gresford Billy Cart Derby, running fundraising raffles and meeting community members.
Youth Council members say the group is about giving young people a voice and the chance to get involved locally.
“We want to create more opportunities for young people in our area and make sure they feel connected and supported,” a Youth Council spokesperson said.
The council brings together young people from across the Shire, building a stronger and more connected youth network.
