THE 47th Dungog Easter Rodeo drew big crowds to the Dungog Showground on Saturday, 4 April, for a jam-packed schedule of action-packed rural entertainment.
The much-loved community event included a performance from award-winning country music singer-songwriter Travis Collins and more than 30 rodeo competition categories from youth to adult divisions, including bull riding, rope and tie, steer wrestling and barrel racing.
In attendance was Member for Lyne Alison Penfold, who said novices and juniors “showed their skills up against some pretty big beasts”.
“This is not a sport for the faint hearted,” she said.
Upper Hunter MP Dave Layzell said the crowds were supplied a “big night of entertainment”.
“The crowds weren’t deterred in any way by the weather nor the fuel prices, and it was a full house once again at Dungog Rodeo.
“Well done to the hardworking committee.”
The event’s grand entry included a solemn tribute to the late Owen Nicholson, who supported the rodeo and Dungog Show for many years and was killed in a tragic accident last month.
“Owen was a stalwart of the show and showground committee,” Mr Layzell said after the rodeo.
“He was a well-known hard worker for the Dungog community in general.
“He will be missed by us all.”
