ANOTHER iteration of the iconic Gresford Billy Cart Derby is in the books.
Crowds lined the safety barriers along Park Street as carts began arriving in pit lane in the early morning, before racing began around 9am.
The atmosphere was electric as an eclectic mix of billy carts – all checked for safety – sped through Gresford to much applause.
“We just loved the happy faces of the families hanging trackside, having fun at the awesome Gresford School games and enjoying the wonderful food and market stalls,” organisers said in a statement.
“Thanks everyone for a wonderful day, especially Mother Nature – keeping the weather at bay all day for us!
“In the end it came down to brother versus brother and it was the Lambert family taking it out for both Open and Junior Champions, with Jeshua Lambert getting the overall win for the day.”
Organisers have reported that more than $8000 was raised in the auction for the Gresford Public School P&C.
Attendees of all enjoyed visits from the Easter Bunny and the Paterson Valley Platypus, plus market stalls, hot food, live music, the gumboot toss, a vintage car display and more.
The much-loved community event is organised by the Rotary Club of Dungog.
