MEMBERS of the Paterson community gathered recently to celebrate the launch of the Paterson Hub & Harvest, a new community space designed to bring people together, build local connections, support volunteering, and strengthen community resilience.
The launch was attended by representatives from across the region, including Dungog mayor Digby Rayward, Councillor Fred Patton, and Stephanie Walsh from Rural Aid, who joined local residents, volunteers, and supporters to mark the occasion.
Paterson Hub & Harvest has been established as a welcoming and inclusive community space where people can gather, learn, share skills, and participate in activities that strengthen community wellbeing.
The project is an initiative of Paterson Community Builders, operating as a project of Paterson Rotary, and has been made possible through strong local partnerships and volunteer support.
A key goal of the Hub & Harvest is to become a local Volunteer Hub, connecting residents with meaningful volunteer opportunities, supporting community groups, and encouraging people to share their skills, knowledge, and time to help build a stronger community.
The space will provide a central location where volunteers and community organisations can connect, collaborate, and develop new initiatives that benefit the Paterson district.
The Hub & Harvest will also serve as a base for a range of community programs including community gardening, a seed library, tool library, workshops, community events, and local outreach services.
It aims to foster social connection, improve access to resources, and encourage residents to work together on projects that benefit the wider community.
Dungog Mayor Digby Rayward congratulated the volunteers and community members involved in bringing the project to life, acknowledging the important role that community-led initiatives play in strengthening regional communities.
Paterson Community Builders spokesperson Julie Overton said the launch marked an important milestone for the community.
“Paterson Hub & Harvest is much more than a building and garden space.
“It is a place where people can connect, learn from one another, share resources, and become involved in community life through volunteering.
“We are delighted by the support shown at the launch and look forward to welcoming residents to future activities and events.”
The launch included an opportunity for guests to tour the facility, view the developing community garden spaces, learn about planned programs, and discuss ideas for future projects and volunteer opportunities.
The launch activity was funded through a grant awarded to Gresford Community Group Inc by The Centre for Volunteering and the Australian Government Department of Social Services.
The funding supports initiatives that strengthen volunteering and community participation across regional communities.
Paterson Community Builders extends its thanks to all volunteers, partners, supporters, and attendees who helped make the launch a success and looks forward to the Hub & Harvest becoming a vibrant centre for community connection, learning, and volunteering for many years to come.
