DUNGOG Chamber of Commerce will continue to operate, despite failing to find anyone to join its committee at a poorly attended annual general meeting last week.
Following the decision by several office bearers to resign, president Alan Green had warned the business group could shut down until it could attract at least three replacements.
However, it was decided to move forward with a committee of three, including Mr Green as president, secretary Marion Stewart and treasurer Brodie White.
He admitted that the chamber’s greatest challenge was finding business people with ‘ideas, enthusiasm and time’ to join the committee in representing the local business community.
“It was disappointing to have no-one step up,” he said.
“But we’ve decided to move forward anyway while we look for three new committee members.
“Hopefully, we’ll find them before our next full committee meeting in February.”
The chamber is involved in two events before the end of the year.
Christmas in Dungog provides a pre-Christmas boost for local businesses, particularly those in Dowling Street. Although it doesn’t run the event, the chamber provides insurance cover and other behind-the-scenes support to the group that does.
The chamber will also bring together representatives of the district’s Community Builders groups on 15 October at a Dungog venue to be decided.
Each Community Builders group has launched initiatives in its area.
“A spokesperson from each group will update us on the progress they’ve made with their projects,” Mr Green said.
“We’ll learn if they’re facing common challenges that the chamber may be able to help them to overcome.”
