WANTED: Dungog Shire residents to sit and watch The Castle at Dungog’s James Theatre to support the Childhood Dementia Initiative on Sunday, 8 November.
The man behind the fund-raising rail journey from Newcastle to Dungog hopes shire residents will join 100 Newcastle train lovers booked to travel up the valley on an historic 620 class locomotive.
“The train journey is now booked out, but the theatre isn’t,” Lance Nelson said.
“James Theatre holds 220 people, so I’m asking the people of the Dungog district to help me fill the theatre.
“Nine Hunter families have children living with dementia.
“My goal is to raise as much as possible for the Childhood Dementia Initiative to bring awareness and support for families affected by this devastating disease.”
Seats for the classic Aussie movie (“Oh, the serenity”) cost $25 per person, which includes a cuppa with cake or a slice from 12.30pm before the curtain goes up at 1pm.
Bookings are essential and can be made at the theatre.
The Childhood Dementia Initiative (CDI) is an Australian organisation that drives global research, policy change, and improved care for children affected by over 145 genetic conditions that cause childhood dementia. It works to accelerate treatments, improve diagnosis, and coordinate worldwide action.
Nelson became aware of Childhood Dementia last September while speaking with a couple from Leeton, whose daughter has the disease.
He organised the fundraiser with support from James Theatre, The Rail Motor Society Paterson, and the Freemasons Lodge of New Lambton.
