Dungog Shire Palliative Care Volunteers receive donations from community groups

THE Dungog Shire Palliative Care Volunteers group has received a number of significant donations from local organisation in recent months.

The Volunteers provide a range of free, non-medical services to locals with a life-limiting illness.

In February this year, the David “Tax” Rumbel Cricket Charity Shield raised a donation of $3000 for the Volunteers.

The Shield was organised by the Rumbel family, friends and the Dungog Cricket Association to honour “Tax”, a lifelong and “passionate” cricketer, cricket administrator and grounds curator.

A memorial plaque has been erected on the cricket shed at which he spent so much time in his role as curator.

Volunteers coordinator Annette O’Neill said the Charity Shield was “an absolutely incredible day”.

The next Charity Shield competition will be held on Sunday, 9 November, with the funds raised to support a young Stroud resident who is ill.

Dungog Pony Club has just handed a $1000 donation to the Volunteers, while the town’s annual charity car, bike, truck, tractor and hotrod Show and Shine – the Rumble – will also donate proceeds to the Volunteers.

This year’s Rumble will be held on Saturday, 18 October at the Bank Hotel, Dungog.

Appropriately, the Volunteers are currently raising money for a new vehicle to transport locals to medical appointments and the like.

The Dungog Shire Palliative Care Volunteers’ Annual General Meeting is also coming up at 7pm on 16 October at the Dungog Hospital Day Care Centre.

All are welcome.
