DEAR News Of The Area,
Thanks for Jasminda’s sensible response to the Kids on e-bikes question (NOTA, 4 February).
Below is a description of a legal e-bike [from the State Government].
“In NSW, legal e-bikes (Pedalec) must have a maximum continuous motor output of 250 watts, with power cutting off at 25 km/h and only assisting while pedaling. They must weigh under 50kg, have a height-adjustable seat, and meet EN 15194 standards. Throttles are generally illegal unless limited to 6 km/h.”
Unfortunately, illegal e-bikes are getting all e-bikes a bad name.
Recently, 17 illegal e-bike riders were fined on Fernleigh Track.
The fines are about $2,000.
All the Pedal Assist bikes that ride with our Dungog Social Riding group are legal.
Stay safe.
