Paterson Cracker Night community social event

THE sky above Paterson was lit up on Saturday night by an amazing display of fireworks at a community event hosted by the Rotary Club of Paterson.

Peter Cronin, Managing Director of Bring The Noise Fireworks, designed and scripted the theatrical firework show.

His comment captured the mood of the night, “It’s every man’s dream – you never actually grow up if you get to let off fireworks!”

Paterson Sportsground was a playground for families, and those young at heart, on Saturday 15 August, providing hours of entertainment and community connection.

Volunteers from Rotary Clubs of Paterson, Dungog and East Maitland worked tirelessly to pull off a very successful night.

Families came from as far away as the Central Coast to attend.

Paterson Public School was represented with Principal Katie Manderson, teachers Heidi Saurs and Taleah Sliwa, and parent Liz Kauter raising money to support the Year 6 class for a gift for the school.

Their stall featured 3D printed scooter holders.

According to the Principal Katie Manderson, the children at the school design different things and they have a 3D printer to help bring their designs to life.

Families enjoying the night all mentioned what a great atmosphere there was and that the Cracker Night was very family friendly.

Larissa Procter, a roving entertainer from Fyrestorm, said, “It’s so lovely to meet people from all walks of life and all generations”.

The United Mine Workers Federation of Australia Pipe Band was also a feature of Cracker Night.

“The Band takes a lot of pleasure supporting volunteer organisations,” said Andrew MacPherson, Pipe Major.

According to Andrew, they currently have members playing in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, and in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The Pipe Band members were: Adam Harvey, Ross Simmonds, Ian Cochrane, Hugh Reedman, Luke Green, Maurice Harden, Paul Stott, Julie Walton, and Pipe Major Andrew McPherson.

Paterson Cracker Night boasted live music, roving entertainers, a jumping castle, and numerous food and drink stalls.

St John’s Ambulance and the Rural Fire Service were both in attendance for what proved to be a memorable night of family fun.
