Council receives Clarence Town Bridge update

DUNGOG Shire Council has received an update on progress of the new Clarence Town Bridge at its 10 December meeting.

The major infrastructure project is being funded through a combination of Federal, State and Transport for NSW contributions totalling $20.581 million.

Recent achievements on the project include the completion of the bridge abutments, piers and major piling works, marking substantial progress on the structure itself.

Earthworks continue on both sides of the river, with crews managing unexpectedly hard rock on the Clarence Town side, resulting in additional excavation time but remaining within the project’s contingency allowances.

Design improvements have also been incorporated without exceeding the approved budget.

“These enhancements include increased stormwater capacity, the addition of kerb and guttering, an AC wearing surface to improve durability and ride quality, and upgraded lighting and power infrastructure to support long-term safety and performance,” Council said in a statement.

“Most of the required land acquisitions have now been finalised, and while negotiations with a small number of remaining landowners continue, these discussions are not expected to impact the project’s delivery timeline.”

Design work for the Duke Street/Durham Street and Waterview Road/Limeburners Creek Road intersections, initially removed to reduce project costs, has recommenced.

Pricing for construction will be provided upon completion of designs, enabling Council to consider available funding options.

The project remains on budget, with risk and financial monitoring ongoing.
