Gresford Community Market returns

THE much-loved Gresford Community Market made a bigger and better than ever return on Saturday, 10 October, with 31 stalls.

Small businesses and several community organisations took advantage of the increased number of spaces available at this market.

These local groups included the Gresford Country Women’s Association, with their baked goods; charity group Wildlife In Need of Care (WINC), sharing information; and the Rural Fire Service, with an educational display featuring several fire trucks.

Representatives from Gresford school cooked a barbecue.

The large grassy area was crammed with lots to see, do and buy. Many of the stalls sold local, handmade and home grown goods, such as crafts, produce, and tasty treats.

There was also live music, facepainting and free activities for children.

The venue for the Gresford market was at the Gresford Community Park, 12 Park Street, East Gresford, with plenty of room for parking.

Gresford Community Gallery and the arboretum are close to the market area.

The Gallery was open on Saturday, so market-goers also enjoyed the artworks.

The previous market was last held about a year ago.

Unlike previous markets, the new market will not operate on a monthly basis. It will be held fewer times per year.

Special occasions and holidays like Christmas will be celebrated, with most markets being themed.

Organiser Leanne Drew was just one of the many people who agreed that the new market was “great”.

She gave heartfelt thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the day successful.

While Saturday’s weather forecast was for showers and possible storms, the weather stayed fine and warm, if a little breezy.

Visitors and locals alike took advantage of the pleasant weather.

The markets are run by local volunteers and are not-for-profit.

The next market will be the Christmas market, to be held on Saturday 12 December, 9am-1pm.
