LETTER: Domestic violence and coercive control are real

A NEW website has been created by the NSW Domestic Violence Death Review Team (DVDRT), an independent statutory body convened by the State Coroner.

Over the past 26 years there have been close to 300 women killed by their current or former intimate partners following a history of domestic violence.

Seventy-five men have been killed by an intimate partner, and in three-quarters of those cases men were also the abusers in the relationship.

Since 2000, 134 children and young people and 208 other individuals have been killed in domestic-violence related deaths.

There were 36 domestic-violence homicides in 2024/2025.

This year, 37 women have been killed and 17 children.

Coercive Control

I was recently in a mobile phone repair shop and the woman in front of me was receiving her repaired mobile phone and two children’s laptops that had had the tracking devices removed. I was shocked.

Pauline Hanson can say “just walk away” but it is not easy. She has no sympathy for these women in violent relationships; she claims they are using the system for financial gain.

So women – beware of One Nation. I believe  they will reverse any domestic violence-related legislation, should they ever be in control of the Government.
