A FEMALE driver involved in a fatal multi-vehicle crash on The Bucketts Way on Sunday, 20 September, allegedly tested positive to a roadside breath test at the scene.
During the crash, police say a utility pulling a horse float flipped and rolled, crashing into the two motorcycles, one ridden by a man in his 30s and one by a man in his 70s.
The incident occurred around 10:20am near Gunns Gully Road, Booral, about 30km northwest of Nelson Bay.
The younger man died at the scene, while the elder suffered serious leg injuries. He was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended and found that a utility pulling a horse float had flipped and rolled, crashing into two motorcycles.
The driver of the utility – an 18-year-old woman – was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, she did not require further treatment.
She was taken to Stroud Police Station for a breath analysis after allegedly testing positive to a roadside breath test at the scene.
The horse in the float was uninjured.
Police have established a crime scene and an investigation into the cause of the crash has commenced.
