A NEW Australian stage production celebrating the music and legacy of Elvis Presley will arrive at Dungog’s historic James Theatre on Friday 7 August.
The King’s Songbook, created by internationally acclaimed vocalist and producer Daniel Aranda, presents the songs of Elvis Presley in a concert format rather than as a traditional tribute show.
Backed by a seven-piece band, the production focuses on the music and stories behind the catalogue, avoiding impersonation in favour of a theatrical concert experience.
Aranda has recorded and performed with several musicians who worked alongside Elvis Presley, as well as former members of The Beach Boys.
Those collaborations have helped shape a production centred on preserving the music and legacy of one of popular music’s most enduring artists.
Following its Newcastle premiere, The King’s Songbook has begun a regional New South Wales tour, with Dungog among its first stops.
“I’ve always loved the warmth and character of regional communities, and from the moment I first visited Dungog years ago, I knew it was somewhere I’d wanted to bring a show to,” Daniel said.
“It’ll be wonderful to see local audiences come together for an evening celebrating songs that have meant so much to generations of people.”
The performance will be held at the James Theatre on Friday 7 August.
