‘You’re not alone’: Motherland event at Tocal connects rural women experiencing isolation

MOTHERLAND is a national charity that supports rural mothers through connection, understanding, and reducing isolation, regardless of where they live.

The charity received a warm welcome at Tocal on Saturday, 24 October at an event promoted by women from Paterson and Gresford.

“Rural mothers are all extraordinary, but they don’t need to be extraordinary on their own,” Bronnie Taylor, Chair of the Motherland Charity Board, told Dungog News Of The Area.

Governor General Sam Mostyn is now an official patron of Motherland.

Several local businesses and health providers were present to support the event.

Attendees enjoyed a catered buffet table, drinks, and a panel of speakers that included Jess Farchione (Breakfast Radio Host), Margo Duncan (Owner of Boambee Angus), Susan Wakeford (Former CEO of Red Meat Australia), and Sarah Sivyer (Farmer and Founder of Just Been Laid).

Motherland has numerous podcasts on its website, featuring genuine stories from rural mums.

More recently, this has extended to creating Fatherland, podcasts for rural dads.

Preventative mental health support and information on accessing clinical services were two topics that dominated conversations.

Member for Upper Hunter, Dave Layzell came along to support the Motherland event. He spoke highly of Bronnie Taylor and said he was looking forward to listening to the speakers.

The mood of the event was very positive, with many of the local women saying how much they enjoyed it.
