Police call for public help to identify Clarence Town pub attackers

ANYONE with information that may assist police investigating an armed robbery at the Erringhi Hotel in Clarence Town earlier this month is urged to come forward.

A 52-year-old man was assaulted by two men armed with a firearm and a baseball bat during the incident, which occurred before 6am on Thursday 4 June 2026.

The attackers fled the scene in the man’s vehicle with stolen cash and the injured man was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition for the treatment of head injuries.

A crime scene was established at the Grey Street premises by Port Stephens-Hunter Police District detectives.

The getaway vehicle was found abandoned in Clarence Town a short time later, on Rifle Street. It was towed away for forensic examination.

Detectives have described two men they believe may be able to assist them with inquiries into the incident.

The first man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 190cm tall, of skinny build, with an Australian accent.

He was last seen wearing blue trackpants, a dark coloured zip-up jacket, black and yellow gloves, and a dark balaclava.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 178cm tall, of solid build, with an Australian accent.

He was last seen wearing dark pants, a dark-coloured hooded jacket, black and white gloves, and a dark balaclava.

Anyone who believes they can help identify the men, or who has any other information about the incident, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
