A NEW community bus is set to open doors for young people across the Dungog region, helping them access sport, education and community activities that are often out of reach due to transport barriers.
Community advocate Jim Doyle said the 24-seat bus is about much more than getting from one place to another.
“It takes a community to raise and support our young people,” Mr Doyle said.
“Across Dungog we already have schools, sporting clubs, businesses and community groups doing wonderful things, however we can achieve even more when we work together to create opportunities for our kids.”
Mr Doyle said many young people miss out on sporting events, school excursions and community activities because transport is unavailable or too expensive.
“The bus will help remove that barrier, giving young people the chance to participate, build confidence and develop new skills,” he said.
Dungog High School and its feeder primary schools are expected to be the main users, with the bus also available to sporting clubs and community organisations throughout the region.
Mr Doyle said investing in young people benefits the whole community.
“When we empower young people and make them feel valued, we’re also building stronger clubs, organisations and future community leaders,” he said.
He also thanked the Dungog Rodeo Committee and everyone involved for their significant contribution towards the project.
“Their generosity has brought us another major step closer to making this community bus a reality. Every donation is an investment in the future of Dungog’s young people.”
