THE Federal Member for Lyne, Alison Penfold, and Llew O’Brien, MP for Wide Bay, Queensland and the Coalition’s Special Envoy for Men and Boys, dropped in to the Dungog Men’s Shed earlier this month.
Dungog Men’s Shed President Bob Humphrey said the pair enjoyed a ‘convivial morning tea’ with the Dungog men, presented them with a new flag, and had a chat about men’s health.
“We visited the Dungog Men’s Shed to meet with its members and talk about some of the challenges facing men and boys in our communities,” Ms Penfold wrote on her Facebook page.
“Llew is getting out across the country to listen and engage on issues such as mental health, suicide, education, family life and workforce participation.
“These conversations matter, particularly in regional areas where access to support, strong community networks and positive role models can make a real difference.”
While in Dungog Ms Penfold and Mr O’ Brien also spent time at Dungog High School, where they spoke with school staff and members of the Top Blokes foundation.
Ms Penfold was back in the area on the weekend to pop in at the Vacy Country Carnival.
“The sun was shining on Vacy today and the crowds turned out in force to enjoy the many food stands and vans, stalls selling a wide variety of crafts and clothes, the dachshund races, camel rides, jumping castle and live music,” Ms Penfold wrote of her experience.
“I thank the Carnival Committee for inviting me to draw the raffle and congrats to the winners (including one person who won twice!).”
Ms Penfold also used the Carnival as a chance to spend time with Settlers Western founder Sharyn Wildes and NSW Rural Women’s Finalist Emma Spatalis.
