ALMOST 50 volunteers from around 17 local organisations were celebrated during Paterson’s street party on 24 May.
The inaugural National Volunteer Week event was held at John Tucker Park to highlight the enormous contribution volunteers make to the local community.
Supported by Paterson Rotary, the event provided an opportunity for members of a wide range of groups and organisations to connect, share ideas and build new relationships.
Organiser Julie Overton from Paterson Community Builders, said in a statement that the “cross pollination” between volunteer groups was one of the highlights of the day and would help strengthen community connections well into the future.
“Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to make a difference in our communities through volunteering,” she said.
Describing the event as a “great success”, Ms Overton said many organisations also received enquiries and sign-ups from potential new volunteers.
Attendees included Dungog Shire Mayor Digby Raywood and representatives from Paterson Community Builders, The Vacy River Project, Dungog Early Literacy and Books and More Charity Bookshop, Friends of Tocal, Paterson Rotary, Hunter Valley Retro Auto Club, Dungog District Chamber of Commerce, Paterson School of Arts Hall Committee, Paterson “Psst” Newsletter, Dungog Shire Community Centre, Paterson Rural Fire Brigade, Dungog Shire Palliative Care volunteers Inc., Paterson-Vacy Red Cross, Dungog Wholefood Cooperative, Dungog and District Neighbourcare, The Rail Motor Society Inc., Vacy RFS, Wallarobba RFS, and Martins Creek Quarry Action Group.
Ms Overton said she now hopes the street party will become a regular fixture on Paterson’s community calendar.
