COMMUNITY members are banding together to keep the banks of the Williams River in tip-top shape.
Sustaining the Williams Valley is a volunteer-driven community group working to support the health of riverbanks around Abbotts Flat and Frank Robinson Park in Dungog.
“We are a small team, but we really enjoy each other’s company, and what we do,” said group spokesperson Samantha Bean.
“The positive impact that even a few committed volunteers can make with consistent effort really shows in the results that we get to see.
“We always try to manage our expectations and focus on achieving realistic goals.
“River restoration projects give us a chance to give back to nature and the environment.”
With growing concerns over the impact of climate change on waterways, Ms Bean and her band of volunteers have their minds set on protecting an important local ecosystem that is integral to flood mitigation and drinking water provision.
“The Williams River is the lifeblood of our region,” she said.
“We want to ensure that its health improves and continues to do so into the future, and that it can be a place that humans, and all of our beautiful species, can enjoy and thrive in.”
The Sustaining the Williams Valley group is always looking for more volunteers.
Those who are interested can text or call Samantha on 0447 833 120 or Catherine Craig on 0476 227 809.
